How to protect standard-size sports cards

A reliable setup uses the right layer for each job: a soft sleeve for handling, rigid protection matched to the card's thickness, and storage or display that does not add pressure.

Start with the right sleeve

Many standard sports cards measure about 63.5 × 88.9 mm. A 64 × 89 mm inner sleeve sits close to the card, while a 66 × 91 mm standard sleeve leaves more room. Never force a card into a sleeve.

Match the holder to the thickness

A 35PT magnetic holder is made for many standard-thickness cards. The PT rating describes the holder capacity; it is not a universal thickness for every sports card.

Store or display without pressure

Use a compatible toploader binder for cards already protected in standard toploaders, or pair a suitable magnetic holder with a stable display stand. Check every fit before long-term storage.

Sports card protection FAQ

Common questions before you choose a holder

What size is a standard sports card?

Many modern standard sports cards measure approximately 63.5 × 88.9 mm, similar to standard-size TCG cards. Inserts, vintage cards and special formats can differ, so check the card or manufacturer specifications before choosing protection.

Does every sports card fit a 35PT magnetic holder?

No. A 35PT holder is intended for compatible standard-thickness cards. Patch, relic, memorabilia, premium and some chrome cards can be thicker and require a larger PT size.

Should I put a sleeve inside a magnetic holder?

Only if the holder is designed for that combination and the card sits flat without pressure. Extra layers change the fit. Never force a sleeved card into a holder or close the holder against resistance.

What is the difference between inner sleeves and standard sleeves?

Cardloader inner sleeves measure 64 × 89 mm and are designed for a close fit around compatible standard-size cards. Standard sleeves measure 66 × 91 mm and provide more room for everyday handling and storage.

Can I store sports cards in the Cardloader toploader binder?

Yes, when the cards are already inside compatible standard toploaders that fit the binder pockets. Do not place thick magnetic holders or oversized toploaders into the binder pockets.
